정환영

정환영(鄭煥永) / 1927~2016 / 전문의 3(1963) / 수련 : 고려대

대한신경외과학회 창립회원 중 한 명이다. 1949년 광주의과대학을 졸업하고, 6.25 전쟁 발발 후 군의관으로 참전하였다. 1951년 중공군이 사단 전체를 포위하였지만 이를 돌파하여 미군을 포함한 환자들을 후송한 공로로 화랑무공훈장, 미국동성훈장을 받았다. 전상 환자의 경험에서 신경외과의 중요성을 깨닫고 미군 Letterman General Hospital 신경외과 연수를 거쳐 육군 대령으로 제대 후 수도의과대학, 연세대 의과대학을 거쳐 1972년 한양대학교에 신경외과를 창립하였다.
수술현미경을 도입하고 척추미세수술법을 적극적으로 개척하여 경추 전측방 접근술 및 요추 수술법을 새로 개발하였다. 초음파 흡입기의 도입, 화학적 수핵용해술의 도입, 척추후방 미세 추간 고정술의 도입 및 기구 개발 등 척추 수술의 발전을 견인하였다.
1987년 대한척추신경외과학회를 창립하여 회장으로 학회의 발전을 이끌었다. 이후 한양대학교병원장, 국제 미세침습수술학회 회장 등을 역임하였고, 한양대학교 정년 퇴직후 근로복지공사 중앙병원장, 길병원 척추센터장을 거쳐 1999년 혜화신경외과의원을 개원하여 2016년 작고 직전까지 환자 진료에 매진하였다. 수술방에서는 엄격한 외과의사로, 평생 학술 잡지를 손에서 놓지 않는 연구자였고, 전공의 지도로 수많은 박사를 배출하였다. 교수로 재직 시 한양대학교 제자들에게 수련 병원에서 근무하고 교수로써 사회에 이바지할 것을 적극적 지원하였다.
